Clacton Family Research
Looking to discover more about your ancestry or trace your roots? At Tendring Time Bank in Clacton-on-Sea, we offer relaxed and friendly Clacton family research sessions for anyone interested in exploring their genealogy.

Family history can unlock fascinating stories. Whether you’re curious about your great-grandparents or building a full family tree, our supportive environment is the perfect place to start. You don’t need any prior experience—just an interest in learning more about your past.
Each week, we host family research groups that help members search historical records, interpret census data, and use online tools such as Ancestry and Findmypast. Our volunteers are on hand to offer guidance, helping you make the most of your time and resources.
Better still, it’s completely free. Through our Time Banking system, you can attend sessions by giving time in other ways, such as helping others, sharing skills, or supporting community events. In return, you earn Time Credits, which you can use to access services or get help when you need it.

You don’t have to be a tech expert either. If you need help using a computer or navigating genealogy websites, we’ll guide you step by step. Our sessions are informal, and there’s always a warm drink and friendly face to welcome you.
The Clacton family research group also provides a great chance to socialise. Many members form lasting friendships while discovering shared histories or connecting over similar backgrounds. It’s a meaningful way to bond with others in the Tendring area while building a deeper understanding of your own heritage.
We also welcome those with specific needs. Our centre is inclusive and accessible, supporting people with dyslexia, autism, or other conditions. If you’ve always wanted to research your family but felt unsure how to start, we’re here to help.
